Serial entrepreneurs are known for running from one opportunity to another in hopes of seeking out the next big thing. But wanting to jump from one risky company to another is not the typical mindset for every in-house lawyer.

James Chen, though, has found a fair amount of success in that path so far—particularly in the electric vehicle space. The attorney, who once served in the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency in the ‘90s, started his in-house career in 2010 climbing the ranks at Tesla Inc., then moved on briefly to another electric vehicle startup, Faraday Future Inc., in 2016 before joining Chanje Energy Inc. last year.
