For years, fewer than a handful of states in the United States have required sexual harassment training.  Connecticut and California were the leaders. However, in light of the #MeToo movement, many states and localities are passing legislation mandating harassment training.  Even those states that have mandatory training such as Connecticut have proposed legislation to expand coverage of the law. For instance, Connecticut’s existing law mandates training for employers with fifty or more employees but a proposed bill would reduce this number to 15!  This increase in legislation is a clear outgrowth of the #MeToo movement that swept the United States following the Harvey Weinstein scandal.

New York State and New York City have joined this movement and now require sexual harassment training.
