In the beginning of June, Milbank, Tweed, Hadley & McCloy announced that its associates would be getting a $10,000 or $15,000 raise, bringing first-year salaries to $190,000.  Other big law firms followed suit in giving large raises to their associates, in at least one case, exceeding Milbank.

In-house legal leaders have expressed angst over the streak of raises, but consultants who work with legal departments say it’s unlikely this will translate into an exodus from outside firms that give large raises to their associates.
