Reinforcing that commitment, we proudly welcome Gus Coldebella into the Circle senior leadership team as Chief Legal Officer, responsible for all legal, compliance, regulatory and government affairs for Circle.
Gus spent four years at the US Department of Homeland Security and became its acting General Counsel, overseeing over 1,700 lawyers and dealing with some of the most complex and high-risk legal situations that a country faces. He also brings decades of experience in private practice with leading law firms counseling clients on litigation, government regulation and enforcement, corporate governance, and some of the most complex technology-driven risk issues facing major global corporations today.
As we scale Circle around the world and seek to reimagine how money works, how capital is formed and exchanged, and how consumers interact with a new global digital economy, we are fortunate to have Gus as a partner.
Gus is widely respected by his former colleagues as a hands-on, practical and entrepreneurial leader. He brings a rare combination of keen intelligence, intense integrity, unflappable composure and a genuine and enjoyable disposition.
Gus’s leadership will be critical in our mission to work with legislators and regulators around the world to promote smart legal frameworks that encourage growth of the Internet of Value, all while we also work tirelessly with government partners to thwart those bad actors who seek to abuse the freedoms created by technical innovation or undermine confidence in our financial system.
Gus will be leading a talented group of recent additions to Circle, including Robert Bench, our Head Regulatory Counsel & Chief Compliance Officer, and former compliance leader from Santander, PwC and the US Treasury OCC; Carla Carriveau, our Senior Regulatory Counsel and 18-year veteran of the SEC and FINRA; Charles Heenan, our Senior Legal Counsel, a seasoned corporate securities and commodities lawyer with experience at Swiss Re and Citigroup; Lisa LoGerfo, Senior Legal Counsel, Benedicte Nolens, our Head of Regulatory Affairs for Asia and Europe, herself a former securities regulator in Hong Kong and previously CCO at Credit Suisse and MD at Goldman Sachs; and Blair Halliday, our MLRO and Director of Compliance, EMEA, and former compliance officer at ICE and PaySafe. These more recent hires are buttressed by strong existing leaders such as Claire Wells, our Director, Legal & Business Affairs, EMEA, and Noah Spaulding, our Corporate General Counsel, who helped build and scale Circle over the past several years.
