Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton was widely denounced on social media Wednesday after asking the U.S. Supreme Court to decertify the election results in four swing states that went for Joe Biden.

Paxton’s SCOTUS petition recycled legal claims that have already been rejected by multiple federal courts, including those in the states he targeted. Paxton contended that state officials in Georgia, Pennsylvania, Michigan and Wisconsin, which have certified Biden as the winner of their respective states, have “usurped” the authority of their legislatures in certifying their states’ popular votes despite significant political pressure from President Donald Trump.
