A federal judge said he would hold a hearing to determine the roles that two former Girardi Keese lawyers may have played in failing to pay settlement funds to their clients.

Last month, U.S. District Judge Thomas Durkin of the Northern District of Illinois ordered a $2 million contempt judgment against Girardi Keese name partner Tom Girardi for failing to pay all the funds to four clients who had sued Boeing over the 2018 crash of a Boeing 737 Max 8 aircraft. Durkin also referred Girardi to the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Chicago but allowed David Lira and Keith Griffin, who left Girardi Keese in 2020, to explain why he should not also hold them in contempt over the missing client funds.
