An Arizona attorney was suspended for six months and one day last month after appearing inebriated during a status conference while working remotely during the pandemic, according to a report from the state’s disciplinary judge.

Joshua R. Kontak served as deputy county attorney on a criminal case in Maricopa County Superior Court when he appeared remotely for a virtual status conference before Commissioner Melissa Zabor in June 2021. During the conference, Kontak’s speech was “very slurred,” and he could not turn on his computer camera at Zabor’s request, the report said.
