Consumer Class Action/Mass Tort Defense
Weil, Gotshal & Manges partner Edward Soto, counsel Pravin R. Patel and associate Brian G. Liegel have stepped in to defend Burger King in a pending class action over the safety of the fast food chain's packaging. The suit, filed April 14 in Florida Southern District Court by Dolan Dobrinsky Rosenblum Bluestein and the Keeton Firm, alleges that wrappers and bags used for BK's 'Whopper' burger, cookies and chicken nuggets contain harmful per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS). Shook, Hardy & Bacon partner Naoki S. Kaneko has entered an appearance for Unilever in a pending class action over the company's Suave antiperspirant products. The suit, filed April 14 in California Central District Court by Aylstock, Witkin, Kreis & Overholtz and Bradley Grombacher LLP, claims that the subject products contain dangerously high levels of the carcinogen benzene. J. Brugh Lower of Gibbons has entered an appearance for industrial equipment supplier Devco Corporation in a pending trademark infringement lawsuit. The suit, accusing the defendant of selling knock-off Graco products, was filed Dec. 18 in New Jersey District Court by Rivkin Radler on behalf of Graco Inc. and Graco Minnesota.
