The Colorado Supreme Court concluded that the state Disciplinary Hearing Board appropriately determined an attorney’s conduct in representing a client in a divorce proceeding violated the Rules of Professional Conduct on four charges but remanded on a fifth charge.
The attorney, Brenda Storey, was suspended by the board from the practice of law for a year and a day for accepting an IRS check from her client made payable to both parties to the divorce and for pressing the client to sell furniture and other property to pay legal fees, according to the Supreme Court’s opinion.
