The interesting thing about the World Cup is how so many teams go into it full of confidence but so few emerge successful.
There is an obvious reason for this. Every country knows all about its best footballers and regularly sees them play well. At club level they might be part of a successful team and people naturally assume this should translate into success on the international stage.
