Second Department Presiding Justice Hector LaSalle deserves a Senate Judiciary hearing on his nomination for chief judge, seven retired New York Court of Appeals judges wrote on Friday, contributing to a wealth of opinions on both sides of the argument.

“We speak in favor of allowing the Senate confirmation process to proceed as it has for the more than 40 years since the enactment of the constitutional amendment providing for appointment of Judges of the Court of Appeals by the Governor with advice and consent of the Senate,” they wrote.
