(February 9, 2021) -- Seyfarth today announced the launch of its ESG, Corporate Citizenship & Human Rights group. The new advisory group helps clients proactively identify and respond to the internal and external forces that shape their environmental, social, and governance performance and impact initiatives.

Accelerated by the social and health pandemics of 2020, companies are considering new drivers for business resiliency and responding to marketplace calls to integrate value-based leadership and purpose into their everyday decision making. This demand for ESG progress encompasses many focus areas—climate, human capital, diversity (board and workforce), human rights, cybersecurity/privacy protections, supply chain integrity, executive compensation—that are challenging organizations to elevate their standards as corporate citizens and move toward stakeholder capitalism.

With more than 20 attorneys, Seyfarth’s ESG, Corporate Citizenship & Human Rights group is cross-departmental and spans the firm’s global platform. Led by partners Ameena Majid (Employee Benefits & Executive Compensation - Chicago), Amy Levin (International - London), and Giovanna Ferrari (Litigation - San Francisco), the new team helps companies navigate and embrace ESG and other stakeholder principles as part of a holistic business strategy.

“At a crucial time for organizations everywhere, Seyfarth’s dynamic new group advises organizations beyond discreet ESG compliance and towards an integrated, practical approach that seeks to balance profit, purpose, and impact for long-term sustainability,” said Majid. “ESG and its variations are not a check-the-box exercise, but a movement towards continuous improvement on seemingly non-financial elements and the organization’s relationship with society.”

“ESG has become the highest priority board level issue,” explained Levin. “Proper corporate governance has evolved to include non-financial issues such as global human rights footprint, dignity and diversity in the workplace, sustainability of the enterprise, public service, and environmental impact. While always important, these were secondary considerations that have recently become primary business imperatives that directly impact value, reputation, and the ability to attract talent."

“Our talented lawyers work closely with clients to comprehensibly understand their initiatives and provide an improved ESG structure that impacts all their stakeholders for the long-term,” Ferrari remarked.

Building on Seyfarth’s core values, global reach, and leadership in innovation, the team is guided by an entrepreneurial spirit as it provides a full range of services across the ESG landscape, including:

  • Strategic consultative and legal advice - providing intelligent solutions with each business in mind.
  • Practical implementation - real and valuable techniques to reach ESG goals.
  • Market leading reporting - leveraging Seyfarth Labs, home to the firm’s technology innovation team, to evaluate relevant market trends.
